The Latin American Journal of European Studies (ISSN 2763-8685) is a publication of the Latin American Center of European Studies, currently supported by the Jean Monnet Network Policy Debate "BRIDGE Watch" project with funding from the Erasmus + Programme of the European Commission. With a focus on the editorial lines on European Union Law and Policies and International Relations of the European Union with third countries and Latin America, the seventh edition of the Journal also has a thematic dossier on “Rule of Law in Latin America and Europe” organized by Aline Beltrame de Moura of the Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina (Brazil). The seventh edition of the Journal is open for submissions until May 1st, 2024.

Observatory on European Studies - The 2024 European Conference at Harvard: takeaways for fostering the European Dream

Is the European dream alive? In the course of two days, with an abounding program, political leaders, European Union (EU) representatives, and students debated this question at the headquarters of Harvard Kennedy School of Government, in Cambridge, Massachusetts. 

The current and past geopolitical crises of the last few years – that have echoed around the world and more intensely in the heads of EU leaders – gave the tone for five panels and four keynote speeches mainly themed as follows: (i) competitiveness in and of the EU; (ii) Energy transition and its implications in the EU; and (iii) EU’s geo-political standing. VII Jean Monnet Network BRIDGE Meeting at the Federal University of Santa Catarina, Brazil

From March 25th to 27th, 2024, the first meeting of the Jean Monnet Network Policy Debate "BRIDGE Watch: values and democracy in EU and Latin America", funded by the Erasmus+ Program of the European Union, will take place. This event will feature a series of academic events in a hybrid format in FlorianĂłpolis, Brazil. This international meeting will include the participation of 13 renowned speakers from 11 different countries, including Italy, Spain, Mexico, Colombia, Argentina, Paraguay, Uruguay, Ecuador, Chile, Bolivia, and Peru.

March 25th, 2024 | "Rule of Law and Democracy" Seminar

Starting at 7 PM (GMT -3), in collaboration with the Brazilian Bar Association - Santa Catarina Section (OAB-SC). This seminar will feature:

  • Rui Guerra da Fonseca - Judge at the Supreme Court of Portugal
  • Luis Felipe SalomĂŁo - Minister of the Superior Court of Justice of Brazil
  • Dante Negro - Director of the Department of International Law of the OAS
  • SĂ´nia Bridi - Journalist at TV Globo
  • Nuno Cunha Rodrigues - President of the Competition Authority of Portugal
  • Santiago De Luca - Alternate Arbitrator in the Mercosur’s Permanent Tribunal of Revision for Argentina

March 26th and 27th, 2024 | "Rule of Law and Democracy" Round Table

At 10 AM (GMT -3), at the FAPEU Auditorium, UFSC. This meeting will foster in-depth discussions on the Rule of Law and Democracy, with 13 contributions from BRIDGE Watch project partner professors and subject matter experts.

March 27th, 2024 | "Rule of Law in Latin America and Europe" Workshop

At 3 PM (GMT -3), featuring seven articles selected through the Call for Papers, originating from Brazil, Colombia, Italy, Paraguay, and Argentina.

BW Report Kickoff Meeting

On March 11 and 12, 2024, the first meetings of the BRIDGE Watch Report were held with the scientific consultants involved in the development of questionnaires on Rule of Law and Democracy in Latin America. These questionnaires will serve as the basis for the elaboration of the Report that will be sent to the European Commission at the end of this year.

More than 30 people from various countries are involved in the development of this important BRIDGE Watch project activity.
