Winner of the 4th Jean Monnet Prize for Social Sciences announced

‘The Globalisation of EU Values and Democracy’

We are pleased to announce the winner of the 4th Jean Monnet Social Science Prize, Young Researchers Competition, ‘The Globalisation of EU Values and Democracy’. After the evaluation process carried out by the Organising Committee, LUCAS BRUNO AMARAL MENDES, from the Federal University of Uberlândia (Brazil), was the winner with the work entitled ‘A Dialética do Ocidente Geográfico e Cultural: entre a herança europeia, a norma e a realidade´.

The Honourable Mentions were awarded to second and third place, respectively, DANIEL ROMERA MEJÍAS, from the Universidad de Sevilla (Spain), with ‘La “Global Gateway” de la Unión Europea en el marco de las relaciones sino-europeas’, and STEPHANIE CRISTINA, from the Universidade Federal do Ceará (Brazil) and the Leuphana University of Lüneburg (Germany) with ‘O dever de diligência como instrumento de efetivação da proteção do meio ambiente: análise da proposta de regulamentação no direito europeu’.

The winner will be awarded a trip to present their work at the 8th Jean Monnet BRIDGE Network Seminar on ‘Paths to Democracy: Lessons from the European Union and Latin America’, which will take place between 14 and 16 October in Asunción, Paraguay. The works of the winner and the honourable mentions will be published in the 8th edition of the Latin American Journal of European Studies in December.

The Jury of the 4th Jean Monnet Social Science Prize would like to thank the participants for their effort and dedication. The high quality of all the contributions received was highly appreciated by the Jury, as it also demonstrates a great interest in the values of the EU and democracy.
