From March 25th to 27th, 2024, the first meeting of the Jean Monnet Network Policy Debate “BRIDGE Watch: values and democracy in EU and Latin America”, funded by the Erasmus+ Program of the European Union, will take place. This event will feature a series of academic events in a hybrid format in Florianópolis, Brazil. This international meeting will include the participation of 30 renowned speakers from a several different countries, including Brazil, Italy, Spain, Mexico, Portugal, Colombia, Argentina, Paraguay, Uruguay, Ecuador, Chile, Bolivia, Peru and Romenia.

March 25th, 2024 | “Rule of Law and Democracy” Seminar
Starting at 7 PM (GMT -3), in collaboration with the Brazilian Bar Association – Santa Catarina Section (OAB-SC). This seminar will feature:
Rui Guerra da Fonseca (online) – Judge at the Supreme Court of Portugal
Luis Felipe Salomão – Minister of the Superior Court of Justice of Brazil
Dante Negro – Director of the Department of International Law of the OAS
Sônia Bridi (online) – Journalist at TV Globo
Nuno Cunha Rodrigues – President of the Competition Authority of Portugal
March 26th and 27th, 2024 | “Rule of Law and Democracy” Round Table
At 10 AM (GMT -3), at the FAPEU Auditorium, UFSC. This meeting will foster in-depth discussions on the Rule of Law and Democracy, with contributions from BRIDGE Watch project partner professors and subject matter experts.
March 27th, 2024 | “Rule of Law in Latin America and Europe” Workshop
At 3 PM (GMT -3), featuring seven articles selected through the Call for Papers, originating from Brazil, Colombia, Italy, Paraguay, and Argentina.
The event is an initiative of the Jean Monnet Network Policy Debate “BRIDGE Watch: values and democracy in EU and Latin America”. This project aims to strengthen ties and mutual understanding between the European Union and Latin America and is a collaboration between 14 Latin American and European universities, led by the University of Lisbon and the Federal University of Santa Catarina.
