The BRIDGE Watch Project announces the launch of the Advanced Course “Democracy and the Rule of Law in the European Union and Latin America,” a training initiative carried out within the framework of BRIDGE Watch, based at the University of Chile and the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC).
Aimed at legal professionals, diplomats, academics, public servants, and representatives of civil society, the course seeks to deepen understanding of the foundations of democracy and the Rule of Law from a comparative perspective between the European Union and Latin America.
Structured into six thematic modules, the program brings together the main conclusions and recommendations of the BRIDGE Watch Report 2024 with contemporary debates on the key challenges faced by democracies. Among the topics addressed are:
– Digital transformation and its impacts on fundamental rights
– Electoral processes and political participation
– Digital markets and regulatory governance
By integrating academic research findings with policy-oriented discussions, the course aims to strengthen institutional capacities, promote the dissemination of European and Latin American law, and stimulate dialogue and the exchange of best practices between the two regions, reaffirming the central role of the Rule of Law in democratic consolidation.
Recorded in October 2025, the course is part of the BRIDGE Watch project, an initiative of the Jean Monnet Network under the Erasmus+ Programme, which brings together a consortium of 14 leading universities from Europe and Latin America. It is grounded in the BRIDGE Project (Building Rights and Developing Knowledge between the European Union and Latin America), contributing to the strengthening of academic and institutional dialogue and cooperation between the two regions.
