Winners of 5th Jean Monnet Prize for Social Sciences announced

We are pleased to announce the winners of the 5th Jean Monnet Prize for Social Sciences, Young Researchers Competition, “The Globalisation of EU Values and Democracy”. Following the evaluation process carried out by the Organising Committee, JOSÉ RODRIGO ALVA GASTAÑADUI, PATRICIA VEGA PACHECO, CAROL JAZMIN ORBEGOSO MORENO, from the National University of Trujillo (Perú), was the winner with his paper entitled “El régimen global de sanciones de la Unión Europea como instrumento frente a las graves violaciones de derechos humanos en América Latina: fundamentos, aplicación y comparación con el sistema interamericano de Derechos Humanos.”

Honourable Mentions were awarded to the second and third places, respectively, VICTORIA FERNANDES DE MORAES from the Federal University of Santa Catarina (Brazil), with “A proteção dos direitos fundamentais em sistemas de risco elevado no regulamento de inteligência artificial da União Europeia”, and NURIA PUENTES RUIZ, from the University of Alcalá (Spain) and with “La globalización de los conceptos democráticos y de Estado de Derecho de la Unión Europea: el caso de América Latina y el Caribe.”

The winner will be awarded a trip to present their work at the 10th Jean Monnet BRIDGE Network Seminar on ‘Digital Transformation and Innovative Solutions’, which will take place on the 02 of October in the University of Chile. The winner's work and the honourable mentions will be published in the Vol.5 No.2 edition of the Latin American Journal of European Studies in December.

The jury of the 5th Jean Monnet Prize for Social Sciences would like to thank the participants for their effort and dedication. The high quality of all the contributions received was greatly appreciated by the jury, as it also demonstrates a keen interest in the values of the EU and democracy.
