Universidad del Salvador hosts the 9th Event of the BRIDGE Watch Project: IX Jean Monnet Network Seminar

From April 7th to 9th, Universidad del Salvador (USAL), Buenos Aires, Argentina, hosted the IX Jean Monnet Network Seminar – BRIDGE WATCH, focusing on “Human Rights, Dignity, and Equality: A Dialogue between Latin America and Europe”.

Under the coordination of Professor Martina Rojo, USAL welcomed network members and distinguished guests for a series of academic sessions and presentations featuring 56 speakers from 13 different countries. The hybrid event in Buenos Aires, Argentina, attracted over 220 participants.

The event began with an internal meeting for project beneficiaries, focusing on project implementation. Later, at 5:30 PM, the seminar Human Rights, Dignity, and Equality: A Dialogue between Latin America and Europe took place at USAL Faculty of Law and Social Sciences. Notable speakers included Eran Nagan (Subjefe de la Delegación de la Unión Europea en Argentina), María Alejandra Mángano (Co-head of the Attorney General’s Office for Trafficking and Exploitation of Persons (PROTEX) and Attorney General’s Office, Argentina), Silvia Fesquet (Managing Editor of Clarín, Argentina), Rafael Rubio Nuñez (Universidad Complutense de Madrid, Spain), and Jamile Bergamaschine Mata Diz (Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais, Brazil).

The inaugural seminar attracted the attention of the Argentine press, which covered the event and highlighted its relevance within the broader context of international academic cooperation and democratic values in Latin America.

On April 8, the morning session centered on a roundtable discussion about Human Rights, Dignity, and Equality, featuring keynote speeches by the beneficiaries of the Bridge Watch project. Their participation focused on the project’s mission to foster academic collaboration between Latin America and Europe. In the afternoon, an internal meeting was held to align strategies for the upcoming editions of the Bridge Watch Reports.

The activities continued on April 9 with another roundtable session in the morning, where other professors of the network gave speeches on the event’s central theme. In the afternoon, at 3 PM, a workshop was held, featuring the presentation of 22 papers selected from the Call for Papers. Articles were received from Argentina, Italy, Spain, Chile, Uruguay, Ecuador, Brazil, and Peru.

This seminar was the third of six events planned over the three-year duration of the BRIDGE Watch Project. Led by the University of Lisbon and the Federal University of Santa Catarina, in collaboration with 12 other universities across Latin America and Europe, the project aims to strengthen ties and promote mutual understanding between the European Union and Latin America. Co-funded by the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union, the project is among the largest Jean Monnet initiatives currently underway in Latin America.

The Organizing Committee thanks all participants, speakers, moderators, and team members whose efforts ensured the success of this event. The next BRIDGE Watch Project event will be held in October at the Universidad de Chile, Chile.
