The first module of the “Democracy Building in Latin America” training course, originally held in person in Asunción, Paraguay, in October 2024, is now available online!
This first module of the course examines competing definitions of democracy, key innovations that enhance democratic governance in Europe and Latin America, and the most pressing challenges facing democratic institutions today. Participants will explore critical topics: Human Rights in a Democratic Context; Governance Structures: Separation of Powers and Judicial Independence; Understanding and Overcoming Democratic Deficits; Intersections between Private International Law and Democracy

The course was recorded after the in-person sessions at the Superior Electoral Tribunal in Asunción, Paraguay.

As part of the Bridge Watch Project, a Jean Monnet Network initiative of the Erasmus+ Programme, this course brings together a consortium of 14 prestigious universities across Europe and Latin America. It builds upon the foundations of the BRIDGE Project (Building Rights and Developing Knowledge between the European Union and Latin America), reinforcing dialogue and cooperation between regions.
