We are pleased to announce the winners of the VI Jean Monnet Prize for Social Sciences, a competition for young researchers on the theme “The globalisation of EU values and democracy”.
Following the evaluation process conducted by the Evaluation Committee, the First Prize was awarded to IGOR PIEDADE DE ARAÚJO and BEATRIZ MAGALHÃES FUJII, from the Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais, for their paper entitled “Defining Europe by What It Rejects: Iliberalism, Constitutional Identity, and the Globalization of EU Values”.
The Second Prize and Third Prize were awarded respectively to CHIARA ARREGHINI, from the University of Naples, Innsbruck, Olomouc, for the paper “Sovereign Digital Twins and Democratic Urbanism: Exporting EU Values to Latin American Smart Cities”, and to RAYANE CADETTE DOS SANTOS and YASMIN SILVA, from the Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro, for the paper “A Globalização dos Direitos Fundamentais da União Europeia na Governança Digital: Entre o Modelo Europeu e as Alternativas Regulatórias Contemporâneas”.
The recipient of the First Prize will receive a travel grant to present their paper at the XII Jean Monnet BRIDGE Network Seminar on Green Transition and Sustainable Societies, to be held on 7 October 2026 in Uruguay. In addition, the papers awarded First, Second and Third Prize will be published in the Latin American Journal of European Studies.
The Evaluation Committee of the VI Jean Monnet Prize for Social Sciences would like to express its sincere appreciation to all participants for their effort, dedication and the high academic quality of the papers submitted.
