#BRIDGEWatch_support: Roundtable at UNIMI discusses new dynamics in EU–Mercosur trade and the impacts of the EUDR

On 27 February, at 11:00, the Università degli Studi di Milano (UNIMI) will host the in-person roundtable “Commercio UE–Mercosur: nuove dinamiche tra regolamentazione e sostenibilità”, in Room T1, Department of Languages, Literatures, Cultures and Mediations.

The event offers an integrated analysis of ongoing changes in international trade between the European Union and Mercosur, taking into account the debate on the EU–Mercosur Partnership Agreement (EMPA) and the growing influence of EU regulations with extraterritorial effects, such as the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR). The discussion will address the objectives, challenges and future perspectives of the EMPA, as well as tensions between market opening and sustainability and the practical implications for companies and Mercosur value chains.

The roundtable is organised by Professors Naiara Posenato and Aline Beltrame de Moura, with support from the Santa Catarina Research and Innovation Support Foundation (FAPESC), the Latin American Center of European Studies (LACES), the Jean Monnet Network BRIDGE Watch: Values and Democracy in the EU and Latin America, the Jean Monnet Chair (UFSC), the UNESCO Chair on Food Systems for Sustainable Development and Social Inclusion, University of Milan, Italy (ID 2022IT1504) and the European Institute of International Studies (EIIS), Sweden.
