The training course initiative, initially launched under the auspices of the Jean Monnet Network Bridge Project (2020-2023), has significantly contributed to the professional development of employees and stakeholders from three Latin American institutions, such as “Defensoria Pública da União” in Brazil, “Comisión Nacional de los Derechos Humanos” in Mexico, and a collective of Colombian military and educational institutions, including “Escuela Militar de Cadetes General José María Córdova”, “Universidad Militar Nueva Granada”, and “Armada Nacional de Colombia”. This initiative has successfully trained over 340 public agents, enhancing their expertise and capabilities.

Building upon this foundation, nowadays the Bridge Watch project is set to launch new editions of a specially designed course titled “Globalizing European Union Values and Democracy.” Each edition will focus on a distinct topic, ensuring a comprehensive exploration of critical themes. The courses will be conducted in some of the Latin American countries involved in the project.

In a bid to introduce a new dimension to the educational offerings, the project plans to develop a unique typology of courses aimed at jurists, diplomats, scholars, and officials throughout the region. This innovative approach is designed to promote the teaching and dissemination of Latin American and European law, with a particular focus on the critical role of the rule of law in strengthening democracy.

The highlight of this educational initiative is the Advanced Learning Course titled “Democracy and Rule of Laws in EU and LA”. Through this comprehensive action, the course aims to provide participants with a profound understanding of the principles of democracy and the rule of law, as observed in both the European Union and Latin America.

O Processo de Integração Regional da União Europeia e o seu impacto na prestação da assistência jurídica na América Latina

The Training Course “The European Union’s regional integration process and its impact on the provision of legal assistance in Latin America” was offered by the Jean Monnet Network – BRIDGE project (2020-2023), co-founded by the European Union’s Erasmus+ program and the Latin American Center of European Studies (LACES).

The objective of this course, available free of charge and online, is to offer public agents and operators of the law and international relations a greater understanding of how the European Union’s regional integration process relates to Latin America, considering the complex legal issues involved and, in particular, their impact on legal assistance provided by Latin American countries.

The course was taught by the Latin American and European professors who were partners of the BRIDGE project in Portuguese and Spanish (always with translation in the subtitles of the video) and is divided into seven classes. The course was recorded in October 2021.
