Observatory on European Studies _ OVERVIEW: First Jean Monnet Network – BRIDGE Seminar unites authorities, researchers, students and law professionals
On March 15, 2021, the University of Lisbon (Portugal) held the first Jean Monnet Network – BRIDGE Seminar. Organized by Professor Nuno Cunha Rodrigues, partner of the BRIDGE Project, the online conference discussed “Trade and investment relations between the European Union and Latin America”.
The activities of the event where divided into two distinct moments. First, a workshop for the presentation of previously selected papers. Second, a Seminar with the participation of several authorities specialized in the theme.
The Workshop counted with the presentation of 12 (twelve) papers previously selected through the Call for Papers launched in December 2020, and was attended by 60 (sixty) people.
Participantes were welcomed by Nuno Cunha Rodrigues (Universidade de Lisboa) and Naiara Posenato (Universitá degli Studi di Milano). Keynote speeches were made by Elizabeth Accioly (Universidade Europeia de Lisboa) and Maria João Palma (Faculdade de Direito de Lisboa).
The selected articles are written by researchers from nine different universities. Presentation was split into two sessions, and each author was allocated 10 minutes to present its work.
First Session, conducted by Manuel Becerra-Ramirez (Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico), counted with the following presentations:

The Second Session of the workshop was conducted by Walter Arévalo (Universidad de Rosario, Colombia), and the following articles were presented:

The best articles will now be selected by the Organization Committee and will be published in the first edition of the Latin American Journal of European Studies. The top two articles also will receive a cash prize for their work.
Other selected papers will be published in the Seminar Annals organized by AAFDL Publisher.
The Seminar was attended by 120 (one hundred and twenty) people and discussed “Trade and investment relations between the European Union and Latin America”. Opening ceremony was conducted by Eduardo Paz Ferreira (Faculdade de Direito de Lisboa), Paula Vaz Freire (Director - Faculdade de Direito de Lisboa) and António Cruz Serra (Dean - Universidade de Lisboa).
The event counted with the participation of authorities specialized in the theme: Augusto Santos Silva, Minister of State and Foreign Affairs of Portugal; José Manuel Fernandes, Member of the European Parliament; Ignacio Ybañez, Ambassador of the European Union to Brazil; Carmen Moreno Toscano, Undersecretary of the Secretariat of Foreign Affairs of Mexico; and Santiago Deluca, Former Secretary of the Mercosur Permanent Review Tribunal.
To mark the end of the event, organizers Nuno Cunha Rodrigues (Universidade de Lisboa / BRIDGE Project Partner) and Aline Beltrame de Moura (Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina/ BRIDGE Project Coordinator) gave the final remarks.
