More than 2.700 people attended the III Jean Monnet Network Meeting

More than 2.700 people attended the III Jean Monnet Network Meeting on the theme “Democracy and the protection of human rights in the European Union and Latin America” between March 28th and 30th of 2022. The Jean Monnet Network – BRIDGE project, financed by Erasmus Program + from the European Union, performed its third event, which was held in Mexico City with the support of Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México.  

On March 28th, 2022, at 10 am (MX time - GMT -05:00), the III Jean Monnet Network - BRIDGE Seminar discussed the theme “Democracy and the protection of human rights in the European Union and Latin America”. The Seminar was organized by the project in association with Instituto de Investigaciones Jurídicas of Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México, where the event took place. Participants and speakers were able to attend the event both in person and virtually.   

The Seminar counted on the participation of authorities and experts on the matter, which spoke about their experience and studies on Democracy and the protection of Human Rights in the European Union and Latin America: Ana María Guerra Martins, Judge at the European Court of Human Rights, Gautier Mignot, Ambassador for the European Union in Mexico, Juan Luis Gonzáles Alcántara, Minister at the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation, Leticia Bonifáz Alfonzo, Expert for the Committee for Elimination of Discrimination against Women – Cedaw from UN, Sergio García Ramírez, Former judge of the Interamerican Court of Human Rights, Glória Ramirez, holder of Catédra UNESCO in Human Rights at UNAM.

On the same day, at 4 pm (MX time - GMT -05:00), the partners of the project held a Round of Discussions on “Human Rights in Latin America and the European Union: comparative studies”. The event was also held at Instituto de Investigaciones Jurídicas of Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México, where participants and speakers were able to attend the event both in person and virtually. As of this date, the Seminar has more than 1.100 views and the Round of Discussions has more than 600 views.

On March 29th, 2022, from 10 am to 02 pm (MX time - GMT -05:00), the Instituto de Investigaciones Jurídicas of Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México held the III Workshop of the BRIDGE Project on “Democracy and the protection of human rights in the European Union and Latin America”, which feature the presentation of 15 articles previously selected through a Call for Papers. Participants and speakers were able to attend the event both in person and virtually. In the upcoming weeks, the two best articles selected by the Committee will be awarded the value of EUR 250 each. As of this date, the Workshop has more than 900 views.

On March 29th and 30th, 2022, the project also held its second Course for Public Agents at Centro Nacional de Derechos Humanos (CENADEH / Mexico).

The course on “The process of regional integration of the European Union and its impact on the provision of legal assistance in Latin America” was offered to the employees of Centro Nacional de Derechos Humanos de la Comisión Nacional de Derechos Humanos and was also open to the external community.

The partners of the project taught classes on European Union and Latin America-related themes to more than 100 participants. Participants were able to attend the event in person.   

All of the developed activities are part of the Jean Monnet Network “Building Rights and Developing Knowledge between European Union and Latin America – BRIDGE”, a Project financed by Erasmus Program + of the European Union and coordinated by Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina (Brazil) with the following institutional partners: University of Lisbon (Portugal), University of Sevilla (Spain), University of Milan (Italy), National Autonomous University of Mexico (Mexico), University of Buenos Aires (Argentina), University of Rosario (Colombia).
